Since 2020, many organizations have had to quickly pivot to offer online training and exams. What started as a temporary solution—remotely proctoring exams—has now become the norm. Instead of returning to in-person testing, many organizations and test-takers continue to choose online options for their convenience and immediacy.

The Shift to Online Testing Is Here to Stay

Everblue, a technology company that digitizes and administers certification and licensure exams, delivered twice as many remote exams in 2021 as it did the previous year.

“The majority of online exams administered were for our state government clients,” said Chris Boggiano, president of Everblue. “Digitizing exams ended up not only being necessary during the pandemic, but the preferred route afterward because it’s more efficient for both administrators and test-takers.”

Online testing removes the need to schedule appointments, travel to testing centers, and take time away from work—all of which can now be done from home.

From Pandemic Necessity to Long-Term Advantage

At the height of COVID-19, organizations rapidly digitized their training and exams to continue operating under restrictions.

What they discovered was that digital transformation brought lasting benefits:

  • Greater efficiency
  • Increased convenience
  • Reduced administrative burden

As a result, many organizations have not only maintained their online offerings but expanded them.

Proven Success Across State Agencies

State agencies in Florida, Massachusetts, and Arkansas initially digitized a small number of exams to test the model. After successful pilots, they expanded their programs.

“We always knew online test delivery would be a game-changer,” Boggiano said. “Now we can deliver hundreds of thousands of exams simultaneously to candidates worldwide, with sophisticated logic ensuring no two exams are the same.”

Driving Innovation Through Technology

Everblue continues to lead in digital transformation by encouraging organizations to embrace new technologies and rethink traditional processes.

Boggiano also supports innovation in the broader community through mentorship and events focused on emerging technologies.

“Being open to new technologies—whether it’s virtual reality or online licensure exams—helps organizations adopt an innovator’s mindset and implement change faster,” he said.
