Everblue, an organization that specializes in online training and instructional design, has been contracted by the Minnesota Department of Commerce’s Division of Energy Resources (DER) to increase the efficiency, quality, and effectiveness of the Minnesota Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP).
Building a Workforce Pipeline Through Weatherization Training
As part of this initiative, Everblue is developing Weatherization Installer Badges aligned with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) weatherization badges toolkit.
The program will include online training modules that allow technicians to earn badges by completing coursework and demonstrating competency through hands-on verification. This effort supports Minnesota’s goal of strengthening its workforce pipeline and expanding weatherization services across the state.
Minnesota WAP is a federally funded, statewide program that serves income-eligible households, achieving an average of 20–30% in permanent energy reduction through comprehensive, whole-home efficiency improvements.
Delivering Industry-Leading Training and Instructional Design
Since 2008, Everblue has trained more than 70,000 building shell professionals nationwide. Its IREC-accredited curriculum aligns with Building Performance Institute (BPI) standards and the Department of Energy’s Home Energy Professionals (HEP) program.
As an approved BPI Test Center, Everblue administers and proctors certification exams for industry-recognized credentials, including:
- BPI Building Analyst
- HEP Energy Auditor
- HEP Quality Control Inspector
Everblue’s master instructors, Anthony Ericksen and Bruce Oxendale, bring over 30 years of combined experience in building science, with expertise in cold-climate housing similar to Minnesota. Anthony also brings professional experience in acting and videography, enhancing the quality of online training content.
A Proven Partner in Education Technology and State Programs
Everblue has a strong track record of supporting state agencies through digital transformation. Since 2020, the company has delivered online training and proctored exams for multiple Departments of Agriculture, including Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Iowa, North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, and Arkansas.
“We’re delighted to be working with the MN Department of Commerce and helping lay a foundation for future weatherization work in the state,” said Chris Boggiano, President of Everblue. “Our combination of technical expertise and instructional design makes this a perfect match.”
“As a Veteran Owned Business, we believe energy security is critical to national security,” Boggiano added. “We take this partnership seriously and are committed to delivering exceptional results.”
