I had a great time discussing innovation thinking with the creative minds at Wildfire, a full-service advertising agency located in Winston-Salem, NC.
Collaborating with a Creative Agency
Joined by design thinking strategists (and sisters) Chelsie and Connyre Corbett, we led a two-day discussion with a group of established marketing and advertising professionals. While this is a group you’d expect to already excel in creativity and innovation, there’s always room to grow, improve, and push boundaries.
A Team Built on Energy and Purpose
The team at Wildfire was a perfect fit for this session. They live and breathe creativity, and their mission is to challenge the negative stereotypes often associated with marketing agencies. Their goal is simple: help clients grow their business while making the process more enjoyable and less stressful.
Wildfire specializes in strategy, social media, design, art direction, digital, and writing. The team brings incredible energy and a collaborative spirit, making it an ideal environment for innovation-focused discussions.
Moving Beyond Mindset to Practical Tools
One of the primary goals of the Innovation Thinking Bootcamp is to build a culture of innovation. Because Wildfire already values teamwork and creative thinking, we focused on taking things a step further—introducing practical tools that help make innovation repeatable and actionable.
Key Concepts: Sensemaking, Creating, and Iterating
Throughout the session, we explored three core concepts:
- Sensemaking – Understanding the “why” behind problems and opportunities
- Creating – Encouraging open brainstorming and collaboration
- Iterating – Embracing rapid prototyping and continuous improvement
These principles help teams think more deeply, collaborate more effectively, and become more comfortable experimenting with new ideas.
